Dr Christine Cassel has held a variety of groundbreaking roles in healthcare . She is currently senior advisor on strategy and policy for the Department of Medicine at the University of California in San Francisco ; before this she was Planning Dean of the Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine and served on the Board of the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals . She has also held the role of president and CEO of the National Quality Forum , a US-based non-profit membership organisation that promotes patient protections and healthcare quality through measurement and public reporting . She served under two US Presidents as a member of the President ’ s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology , and was the first female president of the American College of Physicians .
