Pamela Cipriano served two terms as president of the American Nurses Association , with a remit to advocate for the almost 4 million nurses working in the US . She is currently the dean of the University of Virginia School of Nursing . Cipriano has spent 40 years in nursing , and is known for being a strong supporter of the visibility of nurses , helping to increase nursing ’ s influence on healthcare policy and working to reduce stress and improve the wellbeing and resilience of nurses working on the frontline . She ’ s won a number of awards , including the American Academy of Nursing ’ s Healthcare Leader Award in 2018 .
