J & J CEO DUATO : A DEI CHAMPION
Spanish-American business executive Joaquin Duato is Chairman and CEO of Johnson & Johnson , one of the world ’ s biggest healthcare companies .
Duato is a big supporter of DEI in healthcare . He has said he likes to think of Johnson & Johnson as a “ 130 year-old startup ”, due to long-standing characteristics , such as its diversity .
“ To be an innovative company , we have to be a diverse company ,” he says .
“ In our 2022 DEI Impact Review , highlights included a 4 % increase in minority representation in management from 2020 , and we also committed $ 100mn to helping to close the racial health gap .”
He adds : “ At J & J , everyone has a responsibility to accelerate the company ’ s progress on DEI , to drive change within the company , the global healthcare sector and the world .
“ I have always considered DEI as a core component of how I live and now as CEO , as a core component of our culture .”
He believes that all companies have a role to play here , by :
• Connecting with those likely to be most impacted by their product
• Facilitating minority access to health insurance
In the US , census data suggests that by 2045 non-Hispanic white people will be in the minority .
