ABIMED – the Brazilian Association for the High Technology Healthcare Products Industry- represents 180 innovative and technologically advanced healthcare equipment and product manufacturing companies , whose products have applications for all medical specialties , in addition to hospital infrastructure and physical rehabilitation .
ABIMED member companies account for about 60 % of the medical-hospital segment revenues . The industry represents 0.6 % of the Brazilian GDP , with more than 13,000 companies and generating around 147,000 direct and indirect jobs , which include both commercial and industrial activities and for the most part require training and specialized labor .
Since its founding in 1996 , ABIMED has maintained a strong commitment to the advancement of medicine , the socioeconomic development of the country , the broadened access of the population to new medical technologies and the creation of an ethical business environment conducive to investment .
