HOSPITALS

“ Our nurses here have a tough job . They are required to have comprehensive professional knowledge and skills in everything ”

GUAN HAIYANG , NURSING DIRECTOR OF THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT
checks were carried out every two hours , taking nursing staff about six minutes to measure , collect , and transcribe a set of vital sign data . In total , the emergency department spent more than 20 hours of nursing time on paperwork every day .
“ Nurses had to manually transcribe a large amount of vital sign data from the patient monitor every day and then transcribe it into the electronic nursing record manually . These writing tasks took up a lot of valuable time ,” explains Lihua . “ On the other hand , while the data is critical for patients and cannot afford to be incorrect , manual transcription can lead to potential omissions and errors .”
The new digital nursing network connects bedside monitoring equipment to the hospital ’ s information platform through the central monitoring system . This enables the equipment to automatically send measurement data to the electronic nursing record based on the department ’ s time and frequency requirement . Through embedded intelligent algorithms , the system maintains the integrity of the data while filtering out and removing invalid data in real time , making the entry of monitoring data into nursing records more efficient and reliable .
Lihua emphasises the impact of the technology : “ Now , nurses only need one to two seconds to review documentation at the nursing station , making things way more efficient while keeping the data precise and consistent . This streamlined process doesn ’ t mean less time spent with patients . Instead , it encourages nurses to engage in direct communication with patients and helps them devote more attention to essential vital sign changes with real-time alerts .”
“ We have also introduced new vital sign monitors for spot checks , which enable comprehensive vital sign measurements at rapid speeds and are integrated into the same central monitoring system ,” she continues . “ Now , in just 30 seconds , we can measure , collect and transcribe patients ’ vital signs data , allowing nurses to spend more time engaging with patients and assisting them with exercises . This improves the overall patient experience and enables nurses to establish a high-quality yet efficient nursing service system .”
For Nantong First People ’ s Hospital , the Digital Nursing Network has not only significantly reduced the cost and time in the time-consuming and error-prone nursing documentation work . More importantly , it has helped nurses to focus on bedside care for patients and return to the heart of nursing practice .
